Headteacher Ashley Howells added ‘Huge credit must go to the pupils but this is also a time to acknowledge and celebrate the support provided by families during the last seven years of education. School life was hugely disrupted because of Covid in 2020 and this cohort have had to overcome many disruptions. Fortunately, we have a first-class team of staff who ensure our pupils receive the highest levels of academic and pastoral support. This set of results is very much a joint effort by everyone who we are proud to have as part of #teamAMG. We are delighted that 98.6% of our students achieved the Level 3 threshold with an incredible 33% achieving A*-A and over 60% achieving A*-B and 89.7% A*-C.

Mr. Howells continued ‘What these results show is the diverse range of very competitive courses our pupils will be going on to study at University and this reflects the excellent teaching that has been provided by our staff. Yet again, 2023 will see Archbishop McGrath alumni studying subjects such as Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Veterinary Bioscience, Psychology, Languages, Aeronautical Engineering, Accountancy, Physics, Pharmacy and Biochemistry at some of the top universities in the country including Imperial, Kings College, Loughborough, Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and Nottingham. In addition to these more traditional degree courses, our students have also achieved places to study a diverse range of other courses from Neuroscience to Game Art, Paramedic Science to Politics, Architecture and Occupational Therapy.’

As well as achieving academic success, Mr. Howells concluded by saying ‘equally, if not more important, is the fact that these students leave Archbishop McGrath as well-rounded young adults who have had the benefit of an education underpinned by our strong virtues. This in turn will give them the skills needed to excel in their next chapter. It has been a privilege to have these students as part of our community and they will always be welcome back in the future. To our Year 12 students, we congratulate them on achieving positive first steps with their AS level grades. These should provide the motivation needed to achieve further success next year.’
